Using essential oils in smoothies is a great way to start your day! I love using oils that have uplifting properties such as orange – I don’t drink coffee, so I guess having a zing of citrus oil is kind of like my ‘caffeine’ fix ? If you’re feeling sluggish in the morning, or need a bit of a lift to get motivated for training/work/life, have a couple of drops of orange oil.
Orange essential oil is rather amazing as it contains 90% of a chemical constituent called d-limonene. D-limonene has been studied and has been found to inhibit and prevent cancer. Knowing this, you’d probs want to be taking this chemical constituent into your body everyday, right?! Orange oil is also commonly used to help with anxiety, depression, constipation, indigestion, obesity and oily skin.
On top of all that, orange oil is just delish in food and drink. On that note, here’s an orange infused recipe for you to try:
‘Pick-me-up’ Choc-Orange Smoothie
Serves 4
4 medjool dates (optional)
2 tbsp chia seeds
6 drops orange essential oil*
200g ice cubes
30g raw cacao powder
200g bananas (pref frozen)
100g avocado (pref frozen)
60g spinach
300g coconut milk
300g filtered water
1. Place dates and seeds in food processor and grind to meal.
2. Add all remaining ingredients and blend for 2 min at high speed. Serve immediately.
*I would only ever recommend to use pure, organic, therapeutic-grade essential oils (such as Young Living) in food as lower-grade ones can be toxic and harmful to your body, rather than therapeutic.
Hope you enjoy!
