This is my Dirty Man! Hahaha! Happy Father’s Day 🙂 He loves to get strongman stone-lifting sticky with his tacky (goodness knows what that has in it!), and it’s super hard to get off. I’ve come up with a natural soapy scrub that might do the trick. Will keep you posted if it works with tacky 😉
At our DIY Chemical-Free Father’s Day Workshop on the weekend we made three toxic-free gifts for Dad. One is a Dirty Man Hand Scrub. Scrubs are super easy and fun to make with natural ingredients that you’ll likely have hanging around the home. Generally scrubs are used to exfoliate the skin, but this scrub includes soap water and bicarb soda , which makes it more of a heavyduty hand cleaner. Perfect for the Dirty Man! This scrub will help clean off grease, paint and heavy soil from the skin. And unlike heavyduty commercial soaps which contain dangerous ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens, phthalates and fragran ce (all of w hich can not only dry out and irritate the skin, but also lead to internal damage of your body system), this DIY scrub is completely safe, and even beneficial for your health! If Dad doesn’t get that dirty, this scrub can be used in the shower as an exfoliate, or even as a bath soak (Mum can sneak some too!).
The Epsom salts and Himalayan pink crystal salt int he scrub act as a rubbing agent, to assist cleaning tough stains from the skin. Epsom salts are also packed full of the naturally occurring mineral compound of sulphate and magnesium which are readily absorbed by the skin, and are commonly used as a muscle relaxant. They also help flush toxins and calm inflammation. Himalayan pink crystal salt is also packed full of minerals, and is prized for its therapeutic properties on the skin. The minerals nourish, replenish and aid in detoxing the body. So not only will the salts help to clean the skin, but they’ll also absorb into the bloodstream and help ‘clean’ and restore the Dirty Man’s insides as well! Bentonite clay is pretty much dried and powdered dirt which is kind of paradoxical that we use it here to clean. It is mined from ancient seabeds or from volcanic ash, and like the salts, it’s also very high in minerals.
Lime essential oil is added to this recipe for its refreshing aroma, to help perk tired Dirty Man up after his labouring! Lime’s aromatic influence (from a therapeutic-grade oil, such as Young Living) helps overcome exhaustion, depression and listlessness. Lime oil also works extremely well for removing oil and grease stains. Lime has also been useful in reducing fevers, infections, sore throats, and may even help regulate blood pressure!
